A beautiful rug can make a room. Get the most out of yours by choosing the right rug size for your space.
Dining Room Rugs
For the best look and experience, dining room rugs should extend beyond the chairs when pulled out.
Determine size by measuring the length and width of the table and adding 54 inches to each measurement. This leaves 27 inches on every side of the table – enough room for chairs.
Living Room & Great Room Rugs
Use appropriately-sized rugs to define a smaller space within a large room. Your rug and furniture should visually anchor one another. You can:
- Center the coffee table on the rug with a consistent gap between the rug and the surrounding furniture.
- Place all four legs of the coffee table and the front legs of all surrounding furniture on the rug.
- Extend the rug an equal distance beneath the furniture on all sides.
When choosing a pattern, consider that the bed will cover most of the rug. To ensure a balanced look and feel, allow 36 inches on each side of the bed.
Alternatively, create a similar effect with smaller coordinating area rugs at the foot and on either side of the bed.
